Hi, my name is Wan Roslina, and I am the Head Nurse at the Diaverum IMU Dialysis Centre, in Kuala Lumpur.
I have been a registered nurse for the past 20 years. The first 8 years of my nursing career included 3 years with Sunway Medical, followed by stints in the Middle East.
I was born and raised in Pahang, Malaysia, where I grew up and fulfilled all my studies to become a nurse, I got my Diploma of Nursing from the Assunta Hospital, followed by Post Basic Haemodialysis certification from the National Kidney Foundation Institute, Malaysia.
After returning to my home country, I continued my nursing career by joining IMU Dialysis Centre.
During my time abroad, I saw and experienced so many things. The first 3 months was stressful, having to adapt and learn to communicate in Arabic, since the patients there are not proficient in English. But in other ways, it was fun working there because I was exposed to working with various nationalities, such as Philippines, India, Saudi, Africa & Australia. Medical facilities and technologies in KSA are more sophisticated & advanced compared to Malaysia. For example, using ultrasound device for needling fistula, Single-Use treatment & Hemodiafiltration.
When I returned to Malaysia, the environment was quite different. I feel that I can work more easily and skilfully as a result of the technical exposure in KSA. At the same time, in Malaysia it is also les stressful, because there was a large population of nurses, and we work well and support each other in our daily routine in the clinic. On the other hand, I feel that I can learn more about management processes.
